Checking network…

fun, but safe by design

  • Real moderators

Channel operators (names with @) watch the rooms and remove people who break the rules — fast.

  • Nothing to sign up for

No account, no email, no phone number. Guests just pick a nickname, and the web apps keep nothing afterwards.

  • Private stays private

Private messages are never logged by the network. Every connection is encrypted with TLS.

  • Zero tolerance

Sexual content, bullying, hate and adults hunting for teens get people banned from the whole network — no warnings.

the five golden rules

Remember these and you'll be fine anywhere online.

More in the safety centre
  1. Keep it anonymous

Use a nickname, not your real name. Never share your address, school, phone number, passwords or where you'll be.

  2. No photos, no cams

Nobody here needs a photo of you. If someone asks for pictures or a video call, that's a red flag — leave and tell an op.

  3. Stay in the open

Be careful when a stranger wants to move the chat to another app, a private room or a secret. Keep it here, where ops can help.

  4. You can always leave

Type /ignore nickname to stop someone messaging you, or just close the tab. You never owe anyone a reply.

  5. Talk to someone you trust

If something online makes you uncomfortable, scared or confused, tell a parent, teacher or another adult you trust. It's never your fault.

Dear parents & teachers,

We wrote you a page about how the room is moderated, what we store (very little) and how to talk with your teen about chatting online.

questions?

Who is TeensChat for?

The #teens room is for people aged 13 to 19. If you're younger than 13, please don't use TeensChat. Adults are welcome elsewhere on LibraIRC, but not in #teens.

Is it free?

Yes. TeensChat runs on the LibraIRC network, which is free and run by volunteers.

Do I need to download anything?

No. Every app on this page runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. If you already use an IRC app, connect to irc.librairc.net (port 6697, TLS) and join #teens.

Can I keep my nickname?

Yes — once you're connected, type /msg NickServ help to see how to register it. Use an email you're allowed to use, and never reuse a password from another site.

Someone is bothering me. What do I do?

Type /ignore theirnick, then tell an op in the room, ask in #help or open a ticket at librairc.net/helpdesk. If you feel unsafe, leave and talk to an adult you trust. See the safety page for more.

Is this a dating site?

No. TeensChat is for friendship and fun. Flirting with strangers, asking for photos or asking people's age, location or appearance to “pick” someone isn't allowed.
